Front cover analysis
The front cover of this issue of NME features the band Arctic Monkeys on the release of their new lbum AM. It shows all 4 of the members of the band looking at the camera with palm trees and hot weather in the background as they wrote their new album in the USA. The members of the band are all facing the camera directly and therefor all have a good gaze which engages the audience more as it creates the impression that the band are actually looking at them whilst they are reading the magazine. Although one memner is wearing sunglasses which means we cant see his eyes, we still know he is looking at the camera creating a good gaze and interaction with the audience. One code and convenction of the magazine is the colour scheme. The colour of the NME logo is red because this si the colour every issue, it is the traditional colour scheme of the magazine. Yet again the main colour sheme is red white and black because this is the housestyle of the magazine. These colours are good because they indicate and represent the same type of musci that NME magazine covers: Indie rock music. Also these colous do not limit the magazine to addressing specific genders. The colours used are both Male and Female friendly so both genders are the target audience. The target audience for NME are both male and females aged 15-30.

Contact sheet
I will not be using picture 1 for my magazine because her hand is blocking her face which is interfering with the gaze.
I will not be using picture 2 in my magazine either because his eyes are squinted and look closed so this doesnt really engage the audience.
I may be using picture 3 in my magazine because the gaze is good and engages the audience, it is alos a mid shot and applies to the rule of thrids.
I have decided to use picture 4 in my magazine because it is good midshot, it also can be applied to the rule of thirds and is of a good quality.
I will not be using picture 5 in my magazine because the rule of thirds cannot be applied to this picture, also the psotion of the person does not create a good gaze.
I may use picture 6 in my magazine because she is facing directly at the camera which creates a good gaze which will engage the reader. also it is a good mid shot and applies to the rule of thirds.
I may also use picture 7 because the person is yet again making good eye contact with the camera which creates a good gaze and engages the reader. The person is also facing the camera with a good angle which would be good to use for the front of a magazine as he is turning away but at the same time, looking directly at the reader.
I will not be using picture 8 because the person is not making eye contact with the camera and also looks to be slouching in his seat which looks very unprofessional, its almost as if the person doesnt know the photo is being taken.

Double page spread analysis
The photo contains grey and dull colours with a light but slightly dirty backdrop, this could be reflecting their gritty indie music. The entire band was looking at straight at the lens so the reader feels engaged. The two guitarists held their guitars to show they are a guitar-based band. The photo runs across both pages, purely to emphasize that it is a double page spread, so the pages belong together. It follows a tricolour scheme of black, light blue and grey. These simple colours may have been used to replicate the bands simple indie taste. Blue lines are used across the page in random places, to show the bands raw sound. All of the words in blue are they because they are important and should be emphasised upon. Collums are used to create more space for the photo and organsies the text. The pull quote is used to break up the text, the blue letters also break up the text. Also the band are wearing clothes and are presented in a way with indicates their style and music style; Indie.
